Rootstock

We received a shipment of mostly fruit rootstock today from Miller Nursery in Canandaigua, NY. Hopefully, this weekend I will find time to plant 9 raspberry, 2 currant, 6 blueberry, 50 strawberry and 25 asparagus plants.

Two nights ago, we planted more spinach, lettuce, kale, chard and marigolds.

  1. FWIW, I made a very productive asparagus bed by choosing an out of way spot, digging at least 2 ft or more, laying in real manure (could be compost but should be the richest possible). All this allows the 2-3yr old crowns to root deeply and not produce until they are ready. Watering deeply simulates the wild places I have found them like irrigation ditches, side of the road ditches and irrigated orchards. The berries sound wonderful. I've not tried them.
PS I have 4 leaves on spinach, fluffy baby lettuce leaves and a few carrot top wisps.
I tossed these out with much of a plan, of course they are doing better than last year.
